The content of this piece refers to this scene in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
In New Moon, Bella Swan, the protagonist of the series, goes through an unexpected break-up in an arguably codependent relationship with Edward Cullen. A portion of New Moon focuses on her subsequent depression that is linked in the video above. In said video, Bella is pictured to be staring out of her bedroom window in the same spot over the course of several months over “Possibility” by Lykke Li.
The American Psychological Association characterizes depression by being an extreme sadness that can interrupt daily habits and moods. It can interrupt sleep, cause weight changes, and lack of energy. Bella Swan stares out of the window in this scene, motionless, without changing positions a single time over what the viewer sees as several months. She exhibits characteristics of depression with her lack of emotion and life, as well as the scene at 1:32 where she screams into a pillow, showing that she can’t sleep and is plagued by worrisome thoughts that make it hard for her to express her emotions and clearly upset her.
