Drug addiction, also called substance use disorder, is a disease that affects a person's brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or medicine. Substances such as alcohol, marijuana and nicotine also are considered drugs. When you're addicted, you may continue using the drug despite the harm it causes.
Drug addiction can start with experimental use of a recreational drug in social situations, and, for some people, the drug use becomes more frequent. For others, particularly with opioids, drug addiction begins when they take prescribed medicines or receive them from others who have prescriptions.

"Just one" I whispered in the night,
"Just two" you murmured, lost in sight,
"Just a few more" echoed our plea,
In that dance of shadows, we felt free.
Thin white lines, our silence guides,
Tracing paths where happiness hides.
Each hit a spark, each pill a light,
Escaping the screams of our plight.
A sliver of sadness, fragile and fleeting,
Adrenaline rushing and hearts beating .
The needle's sting, the pill's embrace,
Temporary solace in this endless race.
Yet beneath the haze, the truth remains,
Like distant thunder before the rains.
For every high, a deeper low,
In the endless cycle, we ebb and flow.
Stabbing us with knives, these cravings never leave,
A restless hunger we cannot reprieve.
The refuge sought in powder and pill,
But in their grasp, we lose our will.
So we chase that feeling, an unending plea,
Yearning for a sense of glee.
But in the end, we seem to find,
That true peace lies within the mind.
Let us join hands, let us strive,
To reclaim the lives we once contrived.
For beyond the dark plains, there's light to find,
In the strength of heart and peace of mind.
"Just one" I denied in the night,
"Just two" you command, “Alright,”
"No more" echoed our plea,
In that dance of shadows, we felt free.
